The Pink Flamingos
The Pink Flamingos (Phoenicopterus roseus) made their appearance in the Po Delta at the end of the 1990s. The initial settlements were at the Cervia Saltworks (Ra), and those of Comacchio (Fe).
In the following years, they also began to nest, significantly increasing their numbers. Therefore, for food reasons, many of them moved to the fishing valleys and lagoons of the Po Delta in Veneto. In fact, the population is estimated to be around 5,000 individuals and they have become the stars of these areas.
The Flamingo is one of the iconic animals of wetlands. These delicate and precious ecosystems are among the most important globally for the conservation of biodiversity.
The wetlands of the northern Adriatic are confirmed to be an area of great importance for this species.
