Comacchio, the little Venice

They call it the Little Venice of Romagna, amidst eels, environment, and kites.

Comacchio is also known as Little Venice for its dense network of canals, lagoon, amphibious, and maritime with its seven bustling shores in this scorching July.

To wander through its waterways on a boat or walk through its alleys and bridges (the most famous being the Trepponti over the Pallotta canal, named for its shape, consisting of five large staircases) is a very suggestive experience even for children.

If the canals that make it a sort of capital of the Po Delta remain quiet and peaceful throughout the summer, instead on the seaside promenade, colorful kites flutter, people play beach paddleball from morning until sunset, practice yoga, and swim in water pierced by sun rays.

The historic center is an architectural weave that traps for hours. You can indeed walk over the Ponte degli Sbirri to embrace in one glance the Ancient Hospital of the Sick and at the same time the nineteenth-century Palazzo Bellini, as well as reaching immediately after the iconic Trepponti walking along the ancient navigable canal Pallotta.

From there, it is pleasant to continue to the iconic Loggiato dei Cappuccini and especially to the Sanctuary of Santa Maria in Aula Regia, while at the Manifattura dei Marinati, after the successful restoration, one is struck by the functionality and aesthetics of the Fire Room with its twelve chimneys intended for spit-roasting eels before they are marinated.
